Your journal is a space to reflect on what you learned. On the Action Bar above, click “Create Journal Entry.” You can format the text, as well as incorporate images, Mashups, multimedia, and links to files. For this journal reflections assignment, you will write a reflection paper (at least a solid paragraph or so) sociologically discussing gender, sexuality, and “hookup culture. For this assignment, you will choose two readings/items from the respective module 8 folder “Readings for Journal Assignment.” You may wish to additionally include examples from the videos or textbook/articles, and/or bring in your own examples if relevant.
For this journal entry, you are required to specifically discuss two of the readings in the “Readings for Journal Assignment” folder posted in our Ch. 8 module. (They are listed as Reading 1 through 5 in the folder in our module). As your write, you should specifically discuss the two readings/items you have chosen.
Here are some general guiding questions to consider in your reflection:
How does hooking up impact dating norms/expectations in U.S. society?
How could hooking up be considered negative for men or women or both? How could hooking up also be considered to be positive for men or women or both?
How do gender norms operate within hookup culture?
Is “doing gender” and/or gender socialization a part of hookup culture?
Do you think hookup culture has the potential to disrupt the sexual double standard or to change gender norms? Why or why not?
