You should tell us what you think are the most important themes and major ideas for that week’s readings. Bring texts from outside the course (videos, journalism, memes, books, games, images, etc.) to discuss. I think it will be easiest to start your discussion by using an example from outside the course (perhaps a clip from a documentary, movie or news story, a news article or academic research finding, photographs that you took, screenshots from social media, etc. etc.), but the structure of the discussion is ultimately up to you. The form should be in terms of a powerpoint led discussion. The goal is to get your classmates thinking and to spark a discussion.
You should write good questions for the class to discuss and be able to talk about the subject in depth. You can write these questions down and pose them naturally during discussion, or you could put them on the projector screen.
You should not summarize the assigned readings for that week. Instead, you should share your thoughts about the readings. Is there one you disagreed with? Do the readings vibe with your personal experience, the experiences of others, and how the issue is generally presented in other media? These are questions you could potentially discuss with the class.
Format for the discussion can be introducing thoughts on the readings, followed by a media source (perhaps a clip from a documentary, movie or news story, a news article or academic research finding, photographs that you took, screenshots from social media, etc. etc.) then showcasing discussion questions. Please breakdown powerpoint into different easy to digest slides. The goal of the powerpoint should be to help guide the discussion for the participants and relate/convey opinions regarding the readings/topics provided while also connecting the ideas to examples from outside media sources (perhaps a clip from a documentary, movie or news story, a news article or academic research finding, photographs that you took, screenshots from social media, etc. etc.).
I have included the 4 readings below in addition to a podcast. The outside media source should not come from the podcast or the readings. All these 5 provided sources should have ideas referenced from in the powerpoint/discussion. The discussion questions will be the most important part of this presentation in addition to finding the right outside media source to connect the topic and discussions to.
