WRITING PROMPT:
Students will write a reaction to “The utilization of social networking sites, their perceived benefits and their potential for improving the study habits of nursing students in five countries.”
ESSAY ORGANIZATION:
I. Introductory Paragraph:
a. Provide an attention grabber, basic information about the topic and article, and a sense
of what your reaction will be about.
b. Include a brief introduction to the article and your thesis statement regarding your
reaction to or overall impression of the work.
c. Thesis will be last sentence in your introduction paragraph.
II. Transition Paragraph:

a. Give a summary of the work.
b. The first sentence should introduce the work, the year of publication, the author’s name, and the author’s purpose/thesis stated in your own words.
c. The next four to five sentences should summarize the work.
d. In this case, you are summarizing an article from an academic journal. You may refer to
this work as an article.
e. The last sentence will discuss how the work concludes.
f. Your opinion should not be in this paragraph.
III. Supporting Paragraph 1:
a. State your first reason in the topic sentence.
b. This sentence must support your thesis/claim (your reaction).
c. You must include at least two quotes, textual evidence, to support your reason.
d. Set up your quotes by offering a signal phrase (Bhalerao, Dunston, and Proctor explain. . .)
or context (Ex. Bhalerao, Dunston, and Proctor examine Erikson’s view of. . .).
e. After each quotation, explain why/how this evidence affected you as a reader. You need
to make sure your readers understand how the textual evidence supports your topic
sentence.
f. Your last sentence should close the paragraph.

b. This sentence must support your thesis/claim (your reaction).
