Write a scenario that outlines the process of
implementing a service-based
operation in a company. The scenario will be
based upon either developing a new
service for a company who has not been involved
with service-based operations
in the past, or expand the offering a new
service for a company that is already
connected with the service industry. If
possible, use your current employer for the
basis of writing the scenario. If that is not
possible, write the scenario for a
fictitious company.
Scenario is a writing tool that helps describe
future possibilities. Although it contains much of the
information that might also be contained in a more formal and traditional technical project proposal, it has two distinctly
different features.
First, it is written very much like a short
story. It reads like a novel based on
plausible outcomes. Second, it is futuristic in
orientation as it describes future
events that may unfold over the coming weeks,
months and perhaps even years,
and not written as a report of facts and figures
proposing. A major advantage of
using a scenario is to assist in implementing
change, and use as a blueprint for
implementing a project. Because it is written as
a short story, it is comparatively
easy for all employees within a company to read
and grasp the concept of the
future project, regardless of their specific
expertise or narrow job responsibility.
The criteria below will be used to assess your
scenario. Even though it reads like a
story, there are still expectations that the scenario
will include certain
components, features or specific pieces of
information, such as description of
service, description of impacted employees, key
decisions or assumptions made in
the implementation process.
Assessment Criteria Checklist Points
1. Introduction sets the stage for the scenario,
introduces participants,
description of existing company and past
history. Summary paragraph at
the end of the scenario which highlights
activities described in scenario. (20

2. Scenario includes detailed description of new
service, How it will meet
customer needs, what it will enable customer to
do (20 points)
3. Rationale is included to explain why the new
service will be successful,
providing sound reasoning backed up by theoretical
data/information to
support the introduction of the service (i.e.
market analysis, needs ofcustomers, missing niche, profit potential, etc.) (20
points)
4. Scenario addresses who the target market is
for the new service and
provides a description of the distinguishing
characteristics of the target
market, i.e. profile – type of company, size of
market, location of market.

5. Scenario describes specific goals &
leadership strategy. Show the alignment
between the strategy and the corporate
objectives. (20 points)
6. Scenario includes description of personnel
needs to create and deliver new
service such as qualifications, types of
employees, quantity of employees,
skill sets required and description of further
training required to deliver the
new initiative. (20 points)
7. Scenario includes a description of the
implementation strategy to roll out
the new service, including but not limited to
advertising,
identifying/qualifying new customers, and key
assumptions made in this
process. (25 points)
8. Scenario includes a description of continuous
improvement and quality
strategies to maintain the quality of the
service over the long term. (25
points)
9. A brief marketing plan is described, which
includes the basic features of
marketing for the new service, and related
assumptions. (20 points)
10.The scenario explains the concept of branding
for the new service and how
this is connected with the profile of new
potential customers. (20 points)
11.Scenario is written with complete sentences,
organized and paragraphs
organized by topic, correct spelling, grammar,
use of subtitles if used. (15
points)
12.Scenario reads/flows like a short story and
not a technical proposal. Writing
style and level is understandable by all
potentially impacted/involved
company employees, regardless of their job
classification or responsibility
in the organizational structure of the company.
