Americans were apathetic to political wrongdoing yet politically active for passing particular laws. More accepting of women in politics yet severely cut immigration. Wanted to let the economic good times flow, just as long as alcohol was not flowing with it. See large growth in entertainment and art, like with baseball and the Harlem Renaissance, but still kept these areas separate. Why do you think the country went through this phase? The decade often is referred to as the “Roaring Twenties” due to supposedly new and less inhibited lifestyle that many people embraced in this period,Following World War I, many returning veterans as well as many men and women who had moved to cities to seek wartime jobs, had no desire to return to working in factories or on farms. They hoped to live a more comfortable life, like the ones portrayed in the movies, magazines and newspapers of the day.A myriad of new social activities prompted a more carefree lifestyle. People could enjoy playing miniature golf, baseball participanting in dance contests, listening to the radio or the phonograph and participanting in any numbers of other events . The Flapper women who dressed provocatively by the standers of the time had bobbed hairsyle went to clubs smoked and drank bootleg liquor redefined gender roles for women and became icons for the decade.AAt first glance it does apear that live for all Americans, including women became more open during the 1920s, however some historian disagree with conclusions. Many of the activities that have come to define the 1029s actually predate the decade. Dance hall existed well before the 1920s. Women drinking smoking and dressing in a provocative manner were all phenomena that occurred propred before Roaring Twenties. What seems to have made the. decade different was that the liberalization of societal norms,comming profressive Era Allowed these activities to finally be socially acceptable for middle class white man and women to engaged in.The ratification of 18th Amedment in 1919marked the beginning of prohibition in United States ending legal manifacturing, Transportation and sale of alcoholic beverage in the country until it was replaced by the 21the amendment in1933. 2-Mikaylasince the “roaring 20s” happened post war, i feel like during that time america was attemoting to adjust to the new reality and discover what direction they wanted to go as a country. people in power obviously had an extremely conservative ideaology of what america should and should not be and who it should and should not include. being closed off to those who didn’t fit their idea of the american dream is expected to be in the cards. the mindset of america at the time was to let economy flouish, which explains why businesses began to thrive and technological advancements were being made, as well as new branches of entertainment. the growth of the country during this era is what layed out and is basically the blueprint of what modern america has ultimately become today. during this era, americans were finally able to own their own cars, and were able to have telephones and radios of their own. the era created an economy where america as a masses were consuming everything all at once. music developed signifcantly thanks to african american jazz musicians mainly located in new york.
