While there is certainly a lot of ways in which women in this society struggle for fair treatment (such as the pay gap between
men and women who do the same work), there has also been a lot of pushback in recent decades against the term “feminist”
as some in society claim that feminism leads to man-hating and a push for female superiority. Those who make such claims
often argue we should, instead, strive for what they term “equalism.” But others respond by saying one can’t push for
“equalism” when two things are, by definition, “different”, not the “same,” hence not equal. Therefore, they argue, “feminism” does not have to imply female superority but is still a more appropriate term than equalism. Is there still a space for feminism
in the 21st century? Why/why not? Make a casual argument about what impact (both intended and unintended) feminism, as a cause, has in the new century.
