1. Complete the data table by calculating the recurrence intervals (to two decimal places).
2. Plot your data on the graph of flood frequency analysis for the Spring Ck [(Recurrence interval (horizontal) vs Discharge (vertical)]. Notice that this is a semi-log plot. That is, the horizontal axis is logarithmic. Do not be alarmed – that just means you have to be a little more careful about where intermediate values will plot. They are not evenly spaced, as they would be on a “normal” graph. (We use semi-log plots for flood frequency because then the data fall, more or less, on a smooth curve. If we plotted the same data without the logarithmic scale, it would be much harder to interpret.)
3. Add a Logarithmic trendline and display Equation and R-squared value on Chart. Estimate the mean annual discharge for 100-year flood.
4. Use the graph and equation you created to answer the following questions: A) what is the the recurrence interval for the largest discharge event from 1940 to 2020 on your graph? B) What is the probability of a discharge equal to the highest ranking discharge occurring in a 30-year mortgage term? C) What is the discharge value of this river during a 25-yr flood? A 100-yr flood? A 500-yr flood?
