Learning Goal: I’m working on a social justice multi-part question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.This is an academic paper, 5-6 pages in length. You will need a minimum of 4 academic sources. The guidelines are requesting you to integrate theory and identify skills that you use – you must cite the sources where you obtained the information for this material, whether theory or skills using APA format. In order to learn in an academic setting, it is important to use evidence and research-based techniques to build yourself as a competent and professional group leader. It is ineffective for you to reflect on your facilitation without comparing yourself to an academic standard. Demonstrate your tuning in process in writing on your paper. Then evaluate the group session and the skills you used by addressing the content considered in the grading criteria below. Facilitation Portion: Skill usage: (20 points) • Utilized beginning skills of introduction, defining role and purpose, rule establishment • Identified group goals and methods for measuring progress in problem solving • Facilitated group participation to develop clear goals and objectives • Contracted for sessional work • Implemented appropriate interventions that addressed clients’ presenting problems • Facilitated member-to-member communication • Attended to the individual group member as well as the group as a whole • Used empathy and other interpersonal skills • Intervened effectively with silent, dominant, and/or uncooperative group members • Negotiated, mediated, and advocated for clients and supported in taboo areas (when appropriate) 5362 Professional Practice with Groups 3 • Demanded for work when necessary • Appropriately addressed conflict when applicable • Facilitated sessional transition and ending Maintenance: (5 points) • Set up physical environment as needed • Attended to any task and/or maintenance issues as needed • Managed time Professionalism (5 points) • Appropriate dress and appearance • Managed self in a professional manner Academic Critique Paper Portion: Tuning in and preparation (10 points) • Critique your process and content from your Group Session Plan in the following areas. Do not repeat information from Plan, but looking back, what would you add and why: o Properly identified developmental considerations of group members and cited sources using APA o Properly identified and applied theories (using APA citations) to life-stage and presenting problem o Properly tuned in to own thoughts and feelings regarding the group –topic of the group, individuals, and group as a whole o Properly understood the role of the group dynamics (communication, cohesion, culture, social integration) and how it impacted each of the group members and used APA citations. Evaluation: (25 points) • What did you do particularly well? • What might you improve on if you facilitated this group again? Use literature to support your response and cite sources using APA • Describe the manner in which your values, leadership style or role impacted the group dynamics (refer to Toseland Ch. 4 and 5 and other sources). • Present a brief plan for how you would attempt to change the group dynamic the next time you facilitated this group using literature, with proper APA citations, to support your ideas. • Ethical considerations for this group – what ethical dilemmas did you encounter and/or what possible ethical considerations are there with this type of group (age, topic, location, etc.)?
