Vector Creative Assignment #4 | Logo design – Part Two
1. For your first vector-based graphic project you will create an original De Stijl design.
What is De Stijl?
Among the pioneering exponents of abstract art, De Stijl artists espoused a visual language consisting of precisely rendered geometric forms – usually straight lines, squares, and rectangles–and primary colors. Expressing the artists’ search “for the universal, as the individual was losing its significance,” this austere language was meant to reveal the laws governing the harmony of the world.

The design may be of any size and dimension. It can be abstract art, or it can be an ordinary object that you give the De Stijl look to. For an idea of what De Stijl artwork looks like, I suggest doing an image search of “De Stijl.” Basically, you are limited to the use of straight lines, primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and neutral tones of white, black and gray.
Please export your completed image as either a PNG, JPG or PDF file to submit to this dropbox.
Include a description of your concept along with your image.
2.vector creativeproject For this creative project you will create an application icon for a fictitious app.
Imagine your own phone app and write a one paragraph description of it.
Create a new file that is 120 by 120 pixels (File > Document Properties in Inkscape).
Design an icon for your app. Zoom in as necessary, but be sure to keep your design simple so it looks good at a small size.
Export your icon as a PNG file and submit it to the dropbox with your description.

Next, visit https://99designs.com/contests and choose a design contest to base your logo on. Use the options to filter the contests to “logo and identity.” Next, using filter options, limit contests to “open” (current) contests. You may choose any open logo contest that you like. Scroll through the “design brief” area to get an idea of what to design, paying close attention to the style sliders.

Create a sketch or rough draft of your logo idea. This may be drawn on paper or created in Inkscape/Illustrator. If you drew your sketch, take a picture of the sketch and upload the photo. Submit your sketch to the dropbox below. Also, include a link to your contest!
Additional Notes:
Next week’s assignment will be to complete the logo (more details to be provided).
You cannot use photos or bitmap images in the logo.
Beyond the requirements of the contest design brief, your logo should be simple, clean, and professional.
(You may use a document size of your choice for this assignment. A standard letter-sized document (8 1/2 X 11 inches) may work well.)

1.
Create a final version of your logo using Illustrator or Inkscape.
2.
Submit your final version to the dropbox. Include a brief write-up that describes which software tools you used to create the design, and how it successfully matches the contest description.
Additional Notes:
You may submit two versions of the design, if you like.
You cannot use photos or bitmap images in the logo.
Your logo must meet all of the required specifications of the contest description.
Beyond the requirements of the contest design brief, your logo should be simple, clean, and professional.
