This module has included an overview of society, politics (foreign and domestic), and the economy during the Early Republic as well as some of the major reform efforts that occurred during the 19th century in an attempt to better both the people and the United States. At this time of growth and change, however, there were fundamental issues that faced both the people and the country and ultimately set the path toward division and the Civil War. Based on your understanding/interpretation of the materials presented in this module:
What were some of the factors that led to the War of 1812? How did the War of 1812 change American life?
What were some of the motivating factors for removing the Native Nations in the east, west of the Mississippi River in the 1830s? Was the United States justified in removing the Nations? How did the different Nations respond to being removed?
What were some of the motivations for those involved in and the causes established during the early reform movements? In what ways do these reforms reflect some of the major changes and problems still occurring within and throughout the United States?
What information or insight have you gained as a result of studying some of the materials presented in this module?
