“The fourth writing assignment consists of a reflection on the cost of cancer treatment drugs. In class, we learned that cancer is a disease of the cell cycle and it involves the mutation of proteins that are involved in cell cycle regulation. This writing assignment is a reflection that must be written in prose about the astronomical cost of cancer medications. Biology helps us to understand what causes cancer, how it progresses, and how to cure it. It is obvious that once therapies have developed a cost will be attached to them. However, the price tag of these drugs makes them unaffordable to many patients. You are required to read an article and listen to four short podcasts. You will be graded on a basis of three things; 1) the knowledge of the content found in the video, 2) addressing the questions that are listed below, and 3) grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation.
These are the questions that you should answer in your document:
1- Explain why some physicians believe that the price of new cancer medications is not correlated to the value of the drugs and what is the response of the pharmaceutical company to this criticism.
2- What are the possible solutions in order to reduce the price of cancer medications and why is this currently not possible?
3- Why are these issues not discussed by doctors?
4- How can the high cost of cancer medication increase the health disparity within the US? What is health disparity?
5- Explain how quickly cancer drug prices are rising and what percentage of an individual’s income does it represent?
6- What is the difference between fixing a drug price and greed?
7- What could be the consequence of imposing a price cap on cancer medication in terms of the development of future cancer medications? Is there any evidence that this will help the patients?”
One more thing is that my instructor said no quotes but paraphrase instead.
