“There is nothing I do better than revenge. ” This is just a lyric in a random pop song called Better Than Revenge by Taylor Swift, but it isn’t actually taken to heart. Only a true monster could think with such hatred. This makes you wonder how a person comes to be a monster. Nobody’s born with hate, so how can a being have experienced so much of it? Well here is how to turn a creature into a monster in 3 easy steps.

The first step in turning a creature into a monster is to give it an emotional attachment.
In the book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Victor Frankenstein gives his creation an emotional attachment by simply being there when the creature opens his eyes. When you open your eyes for the first time, you will form an attachment to the first person seen. Victor’s creature comes to life with no knowledge of the world, but he trusts Victor to love him back.

The creature expects his love will be returned. After giving the creature an emotional attachment, you must take it away abruptly. In Frankenstein, Victor runs away from the creature when it comes to life.
When the creature first opened its eyes, Victor is described as looking scared with fear in his eyes. “I just want to run” is a statement in a song by The Downtown Fiction. It exactly relates to what Victor is thinking. He gets up and runs away from the monster both figuratively and literally.
Unexpectedly, Victor turns away from the monster and this rejection is a devastating blow. The creature’s lack of trust turns into a hatred. The final step in changing a creature into a monster is to banish him from society. The creature in Frankenstein is banished by De Lacy, Felix Lacy, Agatha Lacy, and Safie.
The creature lives in a room next to theirs and watches them. He subtly helps them and is quite kind, but when he reveals himself they chase him away and beat him. “I do know that for the sympathy of one living being, I would make peace with all. I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other. ” This is a quote by the monster showing that he is rejected by almost every person he comes in contact with in the book.
The monster begins to act out after constantly being rejected and starts to kill Victor’s loved ones for revenge. Nobody considers how the monsters in our world come to be. They just criticize their actions. When you’re only shown hate and all you experience is rejection, becoming a monster is easy. Society must realize that by following the outlined steps, a life and the world could turn upside down. So, when offering an attachment to creature or person, be ready to follow through with a relationship.
