The purpose of this paper is to assess and advance your ability to design treatment approaches using family therapy interventions. A family counseling video role play will be provided, and you are to choose a specific approach (e.g., psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, Bowenian, narrative etc.) and develop a treatment plan.
I) Assessment: Describe the core theory and concepts of the specific family therapy approach you would use with this family. You may reference your textbook, but it is recommended that you also use other sources when describing the therapy model you will be using. Use the theoretical concepts to explain the family’s primary presenting problem, with an emphasis on the interpersonal pattern(s) of interaction within which the problem is situated. In addition to your explanation of the family’s presenting problem, use an assessment tool (e.g., genogram, family map, ecomap, etc.) to identify the family’s interactive patterns. Ecomaps are discussed in detail in Goldenberg text, Chapter 4. (Note: Not all of the case data is relevant to your report. Use only that which fits your theoretical model.)
II) Goals and Intervention: Identify at least three goals and interventions. Describe what will be different with this family when the counseling you are using is successful (goals). Provide examples of specific interventions from the approach you choose and how you will use them to achieve the desired outcome. Give consideration to the sequencing and timing of interventions.
Grading rubric outlining the criteria for grading is as follows:
• Knowledge and Application of family therapy model.
• Writing Format, Quality and Organization of your paper. Use of headings and
subheadings to outline different components of your paper. Typed, double-spaced, APA
Style
• Critical Thinking is the ability to analyze, interpret, and/or evaluate to form a judgment.
For this assignment you will demonstrate critical thinking by applying a family therapy
model to understand, evaluate and explain the case.
• Three References. Resources must be reliable. Include three references from reliable
sources (e.g., scholarly, peer-reviewed articles or books). Avoid social media sites, blogs,
personal and/or company websites. Your textbook may be used as one of the source
