The final paper (8 page minimum to 10 page maximum) is a written conceptualized proposal that
displays your thought process of group cohesion and how to appropriately facilitate such an
experience for a future group you plan to lead (e.g., group for postpartum mothers with a
diagnosis of depression, anger management for 18-26 year old females or open-ended support
group for male adolescents). Use what you learned or observed from the course readings, lecture
materials and implicit and explicit lessons from group experiences to establish an ideal setting
and group cohesion for optimal group psychotherapy process.
Using the Yalom and Leszcz (2020) text and one additional article from your own research,
you must illustrate a good grasp of how you would establish, maintain and facilitate cohesion,
racial and social dynamics, emotional comfort and vulnerability among members attending this
simulated group. Specifically, you should highlight your thought process on what promotes and
what may detour a cohesive group experience (e.g., selection process, lack of commonality
among group members). In your paper, you can apply the abovementioned knowledge (e.g.,
Yalom’s therapeutic factors or specific stages of psychotherapy) to this proposed group of adults,
children, adolescents or older adults. Please provide envisioned examples of what cohesion or
detours would look like in your group and how you might (as the group therapist)
intervene (or not) or bring such observations to the group’s attention. Provide rationale
why you would take certain action or not in order to sustain optimal therapeutic setting for
group members’ cohesion and disclosure.
The paper below is the idea or starting point. Middle aged menopausal women suffering with Substance use disorder.
