RESEARCH PLAN: CHAPTER ONE ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
In this assignment, candidates develop the first draft of their Research Plan: Chapter One, the
introduction, of the dissertation. By writing this first draft, candidates begin the process of
developing a problem statement, purpose statement and research questions that align with their
research topic. Candidates will gain experience in writing quantitative research questions and
selecting an appropriate research design. The subsequent chapters of the dissertation are all built
on the foundation provided in chapter one.
INSTRUCTIONS
After completing the assigned reading, candidates will use the Quantitative Dissertation
Template located in the SOE Doctoral Community. The SOE Doctoral Community link is
located on the Research Plan: Chapter One Assignment page under Research Plan
Resources. The candidate will submit a well-developed draft of the first chapter of his/her
research plan, including all front matter found in the Quantitative Dissertation Template. The
submission will include all required sections of chapter one in the template and include all
components of each section as described in the template. The title, problem statement section,
purpose statement section, and research question(s) reflect proper topic alignment. The chapter is
written with great clarity and precision. The candidate will employ scholarly writing throughout
the manuscriipt. The word choice, grammar, punctuation, and spelling are excellent, and the
narrative is logical and coherent. The current version of APA will be used for formatting.
Acceptable sources are Liberty University textbooks and scholarly journal articles published
within the last five years except where noted otherwise in the Quantitative Dissertation
Template.
Candidates will review the Quantitative Dissertation Template completely before writing. To
utilize the template, replace the typed instructions in each template section with the needed
content, being careful to keep all headings and formatting intact. Utilize the information
provided in the Quantitative Dissertation Template and place the required information in the
appropriate section. The Quantitative Dissertation Template provides information regarding
acceptable sources in each section. Scholarly writing will be present throughout the document.
The Quantitative template is attached. I will also attached references to use. You may find other references but they must be dated no earlier than 2018.
