Unit 1: Introduction to Business Research Methods
Welcome to Unit 1. When undertaking a research project in business and management this can be viewed is a multi-disciplinary endeavour which attempts to find a balance between theory and practice. Research in a business and management context, in which project management is a discipline, aims to supply information which not only has practical utility, but which can also demonstrate that the research process has been conducted in a systematic, rigorous and credible way.
The major components of the research process are usually communicated in a linear fashion. Despite this, in reality the processes are often interconnected, iterative and involve deep reflection to design both the research being undertaken and future research being considered.
This unit provides the found‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌ation for thinking about how business and management research, of which project management is a discipline, differs from pseudo research by outlining its uniqueness, purpose, processes and the need for reflection throughout the duration of the project.
