Intersectional theory will serve as our theoretical framework in this paper. That is, you will think of gender not in isolation from other markers of identity such as class, race, and regional identity, but as interconnected.
Using an intersectional framework, discuss ONE of the following:

Regardless of which topic you choose, you will want to:
Introduce the reader to Ferrante and her work briefly in the introduction.
Articulate your argument on the first page.
Support your argument with at least 3 examples from the novel.
Situate your analysis in the novel’s historical context: post-World War II Italy. Use at least 3 secondary sources.
Make a personal connection by discussing class and gender norms in your neighborhood. Ideally, you should do this at the beginning and the end of your paper, using a personal anecdote as a frame: you can begin your essay with a personal anecdote and end with a reflection that makes connections between class and gender norms in
Ferrante’s novel and in your life. The literary analysis should be separate from the personal reflection.
You will be graded on the depth of your literary analysis and personal engagement, your ability to effectively use sources and integrate quotes into your argument, your ability to develop your argument with textual examples, your use of an engaging prose style, and your adherence to grammatical conventions.
