Summary
Your first assessment task is to write a concise 500-word Project Statement (plus 10% allowance).
The Project Statement is a brief and concise document outlining your intent for your Final Project Report. It should provide a clear description of your project topic—the problem or opportunity you have identified that will be the focus of your investigation. It should state the purpose of your research—what outcome(s) you expect to achieve from the research, and how you will go about the research—the aspects of your MBA studies (theories and frameworks) you will draw on, the methodology (case study research), the data (with data sources) you will use, and the method (tool or framework) you will apply to analyse the secondary data. Please follow the structure as outlined below and review the Project statement example (and the comments provided).
Structure
Your statement should be structured as follows:
Background
Briefly describe the case organisation or industry.
Project topic
Describe the problem or opportunity facing the case organisation or industry that will be the focus of your research project. Provide evidence to support the problem or opportunity.
Purpose of the research
Briefly outline the purpose of the research.
List of theories and frameworks (with academic reference)
Identify at least one highly relevant and very specific (narrowed down) contemporary business theory and/or framework that you will review. The theory and/or framework should be highly related to your identified problem or opportunity. Please do not list analytical frameworks here that you will apply.
Research methodology, data and method (tool or framework)
Describe the methodological approach to your research (i.e. case study research methodology), the data and data sources you will use, the method, tool or framework you will apply (make use of) to analyse the data (qualitatively and/or quantitatively).
Reference list
Provide a reference list. Please review the AIB Style Guide for how to reference within the text as well as how to present the literature you have used in a reference list.

All written assessments should be submitted as Word files (.docx) (Word is available from your AIB Office 365 account). If you prefer to use an alternative word processor, such as Pages for Mac, ensure that you save or export the file to Word (.docx) format before submitting it.
Grading criteria
Your project statement will be marked according to the following criteria:
Background, project topic and purpose: Provides background context and identifies the problem or opportunity that will be the focus of the investigation. (40%)
Business theories and frameworks: Identifies contemporary business theory and frameworks related to the topic (i.e. the identified problem or opportunity) that you will review. (20%)
Research methodology: Describes the research methodology (case study research), the data (and data sources), and method (tool or framework) applied to analyse data, demonstrating an ability to apply innovative approaches, techniques and ethical perspectives using secondary data sources to the solution of the identified problem or exploration of the opportunity. (30%)
Structure, presentation, communication style and language: Uses the example structure provided; presentation and English language conventions are applied as outlined in the AIB Style Guide to communicate clearly. (5%)
Referencing: Uses referencing conventions as outlined in AIB Style Guide to acknowledge an appropriate number of credible sources of fact and/or theory. (5%)
