A two part assignment
First part is a reaction to reading. Reaction to chapter 7 of book. (i will provide log in) Need to summarize the main points of the reading, make sure that you cite from the book and that you include the pages from the textbook in your reaction papers (example of format: Dickie 124) The reaction paper will have to display topics/notions such as Italian cuisine in the Renaissance with particular reference to Rome (1549-1550: Bread and Water for Their Eminences), and the Pope’s saucepans
rubric to part 1: Summary of the readings is exemplary and superior. The reaction paper is very well organized and reader-friendly. Knowledge of the course’s content is demonstrated through specific references to readings (quotes or page numbers). Reflection displays synthesis and understanding.

Here is what you need to cover/do in your blogs every time:
You need to react to the readings assigned. This part of the blog is what I call reaction because you react to other sources.
You need to contextualize what you read within the class content, namely within what you have been learning from the textbook. This means that you need to contextualize the weekly assigned videos, films, or further readings within the assigned readings for that week. When you cite or quote from the book, use this format after your quotations (direct quote in quotations marks) or citations (paraphrasing): (Dickie 124). This part of the blog is what I call contextualization because you contextualize other sources within the class content (namely, the assigned readings from the textbook).
Finally, you need to explain how the readings assigned on a weekly basis can be relevant to the students and/or society. This part of the blog is what I call connections because this part connects the class content with the world outside the classroom.
Rubric for second part: Reflection is exemplary and superior. The three required elements for the blog are incorporated: the reaction to the assigned sources ( readings), the contextualization of sources within the class content, and the connections of the sources to the world outside the classroom are part of the blog. The textbook (Dickie, Delizia) is referenced through specific references to readings (quotes or citations, each with page numbers). Reflection is not a summary – but a synthesis of understanding.
