Directions: For this assignment, students will submit 3 topics in criminology they are interested in (it must be sociological in nature, not psychological). Topics may vary and I encourage students to do their own research on criminological topics before submitting their interested topics. Students will put in order from 1-3 their preferred topics. Based on my approval of the topic, I will provide you a scholarly research article to analyze (directions will be below).
Students may also submit 3 scholarly research articles to me, prioritizing which they are most interested in for my approval. I reserve the right to reject the article choices and submit one that, ideally, revolves around the topic of the article(s) you submitted. Any research article listed should have been published no earlier than 2015.
Part 1: Submit your Topic/Research Articles (Due Wednesday, March 2nd at 2:00p.m.)
Part 1 is worth 25 points.
In a PDF, students will submit their topic or research article choices in Brightspace. Label them in order of priority (number 1 being your most interested research topic/article and 3 being your least interested topic/article of the 3). If you choose to submit research articles of interest, please give me the citations in the following format:
Author Last Name, First Name. Year. “Article Title Name”. Journal Title. Volume(issue number): page numbers.
For example:
Rafter, Nicole. 2008. “Criminology’s Darkest Hour: Biocriminology in Nazi Germany.” Australian & New Zealand Journal of Criminology, 41(2): 287-306.
The volume, issue and page numbers may be replaced by a DOI number. For example:
Hinton, Elizabeth and DeAnza Cook. 2020. “The Mass Criminalization of Black Americans: A Historical Overview.” Annual Review of Criminology. https://doi.org/10.1146/annurev-criminol-060520-033306
If your article does not have any of these, chances are, it is not a scholarly article.
