Students will develop a group proposal considering factors such as type of group, who are the target members, strategies for recruiting members, and the structure of the group. Students may format proposals based on examples located in Chapters 10 and 11 from the textbook, but the paper should include the following sections:
An Introduction outlining the topic with an overview of the need of this type of group
(Sell the group to your professor as if she were your boss).
-Why is this type of group necessary? PLEASE be sure to include statistics (that have been researched, including citations) as well as the reasons why this topic could benefit from group counseling. (REMEMBER TO CITE THE SOURCES!)
-Who are the target members? How will the members be recruited for your group?
Group Goals: What You Hope to Accomplish?
Organization of the Group: Please include details- when, where, how often will group meet etc…
Group Format: How will the group sessions be structured?
-Please provide an outline for the entire group- for example, list the topics to be included for each group session. (We will discuss this in class.)
-Also, please choose one group and outline specifically what will be covered in this group session: from the icebreaker to the ending of the group. This will be the group role played in class.
Group Rules: what rules would you like to design in your relationship with the group?
-Any Special Considerations? (Example: informed consent forms if working with minors)
-A Flyer advertising your group (mandatory)
The grade for the proposal will be based on incorporating the information outlined in the group proposal assignment along with creativity and originality. The paper must be at least 3 pages in length but no more than 5 pages. PLEASE be mindful of spelling and grammar and remember to cite any sources used in a reference section.
Please use APA style to cite sources – they must be cited in the body of the paper as well as listed in the reference section of the paper. The paper itself does not need to be in APA format.
Students must have at least 2 sources in the reference section of the paper. These sources may come from any scholarly journal, magazine or newspaper article OR from websites with specific domains: “.edu” or “.gov” are appropriate. Great examples are Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
