Hello class, the scientific technique and practice related to genetics and eugenics has vastly grown in recent years. This research greatly impacts the development of new technology advances towards creating new cures for diseases. This would greatly improve the way medical professionals can treat diseases and illnesses. However, the technique and practice related to eugenics and genetics creates new ethical problems that have not been around previously. Although the genetic and eugenic practice could benefit many different areas of medicine, it brings issues of misuse and could potentially become a lethal situation. My thoughts on this ethical issue is that it is beneficial, however, it would most likely be abused by higher ups as well as individuals. It could cause problems us as citizens have never dealt with or would be able to deal with quickly enough.
I would relate this issue to virtue ethics. This theory emphasizes that moral behavior should represent virtues and qualities of an individual’s character. Aristotle believed that character traits and types of people are more important than rules, obligations and rights. This relates to prenatal testing since many of the outcomes of the procedure end in terminated pregnancies due to an unwanted outcome. We should value each other as human beings and recognize the importance of our character and morality/values when making ethical judgments.

STUDENT 2 Stem cell research studies the properties of stem cell and how they can be used in medicine. The rationale behind stem cell research is to try to learn how diseases can occur, what causes defects in cells, they are also tested to grow new cells in an attempt to be able to replace damaged organs or tissues, and it is also used to test how effective and safe a new drug is. I believe stem cell research is an acceptable practice because there are several benefits that can come as an outcome. For example, cord blood stem cells have been successfully used to treat children with leukemia.
