Sontag’s model scenario does not apply to Children of Men because the film takes place after the disaster has happened. But it is interesting because the model scenario probably did happen except the hero of the film, Theo Faron, plays no part in the initial reaction to the infertility. But at one point in time before the film the infertility arrived in some way.
Doctors and others start to notice and confirm that it is true that there are no more children being born.

Someone who is not Faron talks to scientists about what can be done. An atrocity of the general public being in shock, which causes acts of terrorism, happens. Then there would be conferences about how to keep society in check and try and cure the problem (Sontag). The model theory could apply to Children of Men if the arrival of the thing is the new pregnant woman. Then there would be confirmation by everyone that she is in fact pregnant.

Faron talks to the rebellion about what needs to be done to protect the woman and her child so she is not taken advantage of and killed. The atrocity examples are one of the many times that they are attacked and how all their friends and people trying to help them are killed. The conferences would be about how there has to be a way to save this woman and learn what it is about her that allows her to be pregnant. Clearly a pregnant woman is not what Sontag original imagined when she meant thing but when thinking about it these people in this society are so used to thinking that everything is meaningless and everything is going to disappear that the idea that it may not be is a disaster to them (Sontag).

Reviewers do not speak about the villain in this film because there is no specific villain. The villain is the society that has been formed due to the infertility of women bringing an anarchic London to life. This cannot be compared to the usual disaster villain tropes because it is not something that can be overcome like aliens in Independence Day or terrorists in Die Hard. It is an invisible enemy that has already done its initial blow and the world is still reacting to it.
