Learning Goal: I’m working on a biology discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.(Organic Chicken vs The Store Chicken) Presentation You will need to submit your presentation and your research journal SEPERATELY on Canvas. You will be allotted 30 minutes ONLY to present your work. Comparison- A comparison topic will require you to have at least two different things to compare in your work. Once you have decided what two things you are going to compare you will then pose a scientific question that you will aim to begin uncovering with your work. It would help you if you began researching some background information on your topic to help you form this question. You will then work at answering your question by comparing your two items and applying the background knowledge you have been learning. Note any important differences between your two items, why these findings may be relevant to us today, and what may be the cause of these differences, etc. You do not need to do a deep dive but at least give us basic information so that the audience can understand why they should care and have enough information to follow your presentation. You will then use what you have learned in this program to apply histological or cytological techniques to help you uncover data in an attempt to aid you in answering a bit of your question. Please refer to the provided PowerPoint on how to follow the scientific method as well as find other tips. Of if you follow the below example you may discuss if you found any microorganisms in the non-organic make-up but none in the organic make-up. You could then look up how these microorganisms may be harmful to the body and what the implications of your findings are. For this option you will also need to properly document in your research journal your hypothesis, methods, variables, all of your trials and their associated results. You will also need to talk your audience through these aspects. Additionally, you must provide three pictures to use as evidence of your work. If you are using special staining you will need to perform three special stains and provide pictures and protocols for each. Things to include in your special project: 1. Project must include 4 references of at least two different types. Some examples of different types of sources include: internet, literature, media, demonstrations, and classroom resources. These references must be cited in MLA format. 2. A research journal that is organized and detailed explaining your hypothesis, variables, methods, and results. 3. Basic background information your audience would need to know in order to understand your project. These include a description of what you are comparing, or what the prior techniques consisted of before you applied your research technique. 4. At least three pictures of your work. As well if you are running special stains, three pictures, and three protocols. Research journals: You may purchase a small journal or use your computer to record your observations throughout this process. ON the front page of your journal create a table of contents to help keep your organized as you begin working on your project. Additionally, name your project something fun that summarizes the entire idea of your special project. You will want to include this title not only on your presentation, but also on the same area as your name on your research journal. You will need to include stating your hypothesis, and providing background information as to why you chose your topic and why you believe your experiment will turn out this way. Additionally, list your variables and why you chose them. List your methods for each trial and highlight what is being changed for each one as your work through your project. Write down what your results were and write troubleshooting ideas after observing your results. Lastly, explain what you would do differently if you had the chance to run this again, what future directions you believe this work could go towards, and the implications of your work. PowerPoint: You must create a PowerPoint that is well detailed with enough background information for your audience to follow along as well as fully understand what you were trying to show with your work. Note, if you go over the thirty minutes you will be interrupted and only be graded on what you presented on during your thirty minutes. Please review the provided example PowerPoint on Canvas as well as the PowerPoint giving you pointers on how to design a well-organized and detailed scientific PowerPoint.
