Task:

The task below forms the basis of all 4 pieces of assessment that you will be required to complete for this subject.
Students are to identify an Australian or international public health problem that is an important public health challenge. The problem should be in a socially disadvantaged country/community/setting or one that affects a disadvantaged population.

This assessment task requires students to identify Complementary Medicine approaches, strategies, programs, interventions, and/or collaborations that could address this public health problem. These could include, but are not limited to, integrated models of care/prevention, health promotion initiatives, or CM primary health care programs.

Select a project topic that is realistic and you find interesting because it will form the basis of the other three assessments for this subject. Your topic must be selected by Week 3 and have your lecturer’s approval.

Part A – The public health project proposal

Part A is a brief proposal outlining your project. It should include the following:
1. Background- establish the rationale for this project;
A. Identify and describe the public health problem
B. Provide background data about the extent/scope of the public health problem.
This will establish the evidence of need
C. Identify and describe the target population/community/setting and their relationship with the public health problem
D. Describe the current approaches to the problem

2. Provide supporting evidence that the intervention is justified
A. Describe the CM intervention(s)/approach(es)
B. Provide evidence/a rationale of why the intervention will be successful
C. Describe how will the intervention will complement and/or improve current approaches to addressing the public health problem.

3. Program/intervention description and purpose
A. Briefly outline what the program will do. How? Where will it be implemented? Who will be involved?
