Nursing Essay Writing Assignment:

Task 1: Presentation

Students will be required to deliver a brief presentation on-line on a practice development topic or theory of their choice. The topic/area should be small and contained and should demonstrate a developing understanding of the chosen topic. Suggested topic areas include but are not limited to:
1. Person Centred Care
2. Workplace cultures
3. Values and Beliefs in Practice Development
4. An exploration of one or more of the Nine Principles of Practice Development.

The presentation should be in the form of a power point or similar, approximately 4- 6 slides with commentary/narration in the notes section of each slide. An audio file can be used for the narration however a written version will also need to be submitted. (Commentary/narration should total 1000 words).

Task 2: Practice Development Essay

Students will write an academic paper on a practice development topic of their choice. This paper will explore the theoretical and practical underpinnings of the topic area and its relevance to their clinical context. The topic can be either
a) The same topic that was chosen for assessment one which the student will explore in greater depth OR
b) A different topic
The paper will demonstrate an understanding of Practice Development and CIP (Collaborative, Inclusive, Participatory) principles in relation to the chosen topic.

Task 3: Case study

Students will develop a case study based on ONE of the following criteria:
a) Students will demonstrate the use of a practice development process/tool/method in relation to a clinical issue which they have encountered in the past or are currently aware of with a view to developing a proposal or action plan.
OR
b) Students will demonstrate the use of a practice development process/tool/method to further develop and/or evaluate an existing practice development project in their own clinical area. Students will need to clearly demonstrate the method that has been applied. The student must demonstrate the use of a process or tool and an understanding of the reason why this process or tool has been chosen.
The process/tool/method must be consistent with Practice Development and CIP (Collaborative, Inclusive, Participatory) principles.
