Short Assignment 4 – Experimental Assessment
I’ve attached a series of experiments conducted by Daryl Bem. The article (in APA style) is:

I want you to analyze the findings in this article, ultimately leading to your conclusion of should we trust the findings of these experiments or should we reject the findings of these experiments?
This article is not an easy read because there are 9 short experiments to replicate the effect, but graduate school is demanding and I think you are quite capable of doing this. So read the article first, but I do not expect you to understand or interpret any of the statistics because we haven’t learned about these statistics (yet). But I do think you are qualified to focus your attention on the experimental methodologies and decisions made in these experiments to form an overall conclusion about the validity of the results. Some criteria you should consider to make your final determination:
1 – What type of experimental designs were conducted?
2 – Did the designs meet the criteria for good experiments?
3 – What were the independent variables and how were they manipulated?
4 – What were the dependent variables and how were they measured?
5 – How were participants sampled and assigned to conditions?
6 – What were the results/findings of the experiments and are they generalizable?
7 – Are there any validity concerns?
8 – Does the replication of these findings make them more valid?
In a 2-page double-spaced short assignment, I want you to start the paper with a thesis statement highlighting if we should or should not trust the findings of this study. Then, I want you to provide evidence to support your claim of support or rejection based on the 8 criteria (or more) above. These criteria are discussed in your reading for this week (chapter 13) and in my video lecture. I consider this to be a more challenging assignment and I look forward to reading your paper. After I grade these assignments, I will give you a tally of your classmates vote to trust or not trust the findings. You should not discuss the assignment with each other, and I expect each of you to do your own work. I will check for plagiarism on this one.
