When I was getting ready for this course I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was surprised at the amount of detail that this class went into. I found Alternative Dispute Resolution, to be interesting due to the amount of different ways that this process. “Dispute resolution processes can be used to resolve any type of dispute including family, neighborhood, employment, business, housing, personal injury, consumer, and environmental disputes.” (staff, 2019) Learning how these different processes are less costly and usually faster that traditional court processes was interesting to learn about. One good thing about these processes is that they are less formal and a lot of the times, the traditional court rules are flexible. As someone who has worked in the criminal justice field for several years, it was interesting to me because I located some alternative dispute resolution options that I have never heard of before. This will give me a leg up if I encounter these type of alternative dispute resolution options, in the future.

I have gone through a few elections, and changing leadership in sheriffs office, but learning how some states, and municipalities have dealt with change was interesting. A lot of the information I found there was no issues in the transition, I only found a few examples where there was animosity and people leaving due to the change in leadership. I found this especially interesting as someone who recently ran for public office and lost, it made me look at the way it effects those that already work in that particular agency. I also found it interesting with the amount of state and local agencies that have position specific training for all newly elected officials, such as judges, sheriffs, and court personnel.

The discussion boards I feel are key to the online learning process, it helps answer any questions you may have. Every student is given the same question, and it is intriguing how many different answers to the same questions you will receive. These different answers are key to the learning process, due to the different points of view and experience of the particular students. If you have any questions are unsure of something in the assignment reading others discussion board posts can and most likely will answer those questions. The use of the individual projects and the discussion board, I feel was the best use of assignments for this particular course.Complete 2 Short Discussions (TRIDENT)

Continuing with the theme of the Module 1 Discussion, do some diagnosis of a conversation from your favorite TV show or movie that demonstrates some aspect of Transactional Analysis. Which character was the “parent” and which one was the “child”? Or did both act like “adults”? Explain how Transactional Analysis applies to this scene. Also, if any of the characters in this show has a blind spot or hidden area, share this diagnosis with the class as well. This post should be within the first few days of the module.

For the second week of the module, start paying close attention to some interactions in your daily life. Did you have any conversations or confrontations that could be analyzed using Transactional Analysis? Did you change your own communication approach based on what you learned in this module about Transactional Analysis?

For your SLP, you will be writing about a real-life example of organizational politics from your own work life. For the discussion, we will take a bit more lighthearted approach and look at some examples of how organizational politics is portrayed in movies or TV as well as video games.

Notable TV series that focus on workplace life include Suits, Mad Men, Silicon Valley, House of Lies, Ugly Betty, and The Office. You can probably think of few more recent ones. In terms of movies, Office Space, The Social Network, and Jobs are some examples of popular movies that revolved around corporate life.

For your first post in the first week of this module, try to find a good example of a recent TV series or movie that you watched that you thought was a good example of any of the concepts from this module. Give a short synopsis of the story involved and how it reflected concepts from the background readings. If you can find a YouTube clip from this show or movie, share the link with your classmates. Also, discuss how realistic the TV show or movie was—did it seem similar to what you might find in real life?

Just as office politics is a common theme in movies and TV, there are a surprising number of video games with an office politics theme. Do a search on “office politics games,” “office simulators” or similar searches and see if you find any games that look interesting or are relevant to this module. Some of these games are even available for free—special kudos to any of you who try the game out yourselves. Spend some time reviewing current advertisements and choose only one (what you present must be some form of commercial advertisement from the 21st century and please attempt to share current ads from 2010 and beyond)> This can be done through various media outlets of your choosing such as: online, TV, or print. Also, make sure you have chosen a legitimate advertisement and not an artists rendition of an ad, propaganda or a public service announcement–these do not count.
