1. Think back to when you were a school age child. What types of “creative” activities did you enjoy?
I really enjoyed arts and crafts in my after-school program. I also remember having a dramatic play area in my classroom and at home so pretend play was one of my favorite things.
2. Now that you are an adult, do you still do any of those activities? Why, or why not?
Since I work with kindergarten and first grade student I do find myself doing a lot of arts and crafts as they seem to like this. I also have dramatic play area in the room also and from time to time I will sit down and play with children in this area. A favorite my students is restaurant, so ill pretend to be the customer.
3. Do you think your prior/current experiences taking part in “creative” activities, would influence you in your curriculum development for school age children?
Yes, I think it definitely has. By allowing children to be creative they are exploring their own curiosities. I find myself providing the after school students with a lot of open ended materials to use during their in the program. I also remember a lot of creative activity I did when I was in elementary school and implemented those in the classroom as well…like leaf rubbings (outside art activity).
