Reflection on Rhetorical Analysis Readings

Both Robert Reich and Tyler Cowen discuss in their respective chapters (“Three Jobs of the Future” and “The Big Earners and the Big Losers”) that the current labor market is very competitive. Indeed, Reich implies that one’s ability to secure and retain employment in today’s workforce depends on his or her ability to add value to what his or her organization does. Meg Jay, whose writings can be found in the Project 2 folder, extends this idea in her discussion of the need for people to build their value by developing what she calls “identity capital.” Discuss at least three specific things you are doing or will do to develop your identity capital in order to make yourself more valuable to an employer.

Authors’ Main Arguments

To help us understand the main arguments of the authors we have read for the final project, I have created this discussion forum for you to exchange your insights and comment on those of other students in the class. This will help us acquire a collective knowledge of the readings and how they relate to one another.

Points will be assigned for the quality and quantity of posts you make up to a total of 30 points. To receive full credit for this assignment, you need to make and/or respond to a total of three posts (not three posts for each discussion thread). This will give you the flexibility to choose which discussions you would like to participate in. Ultimately, our discussions will help you construct your argument map which, in turn, will provide you the content for your final paper.

I discuss each part of the rhetorical analysis prompt and explain what you are supposed to discuss in your paper.
