Read “Bloodchild” by Octavia Butler. (Ignore all the really incredibly stupid plot summaries on the internet, and use my mini-intro instead.)
Use the Reading Response instructions, Example Reading Response, and grade rubric to respond to “Bloodchild.”
Reading Responses have four parts
1. A summary paragraph, no more than five sentences long, that briefly summarizes the story’s main events, beginning to end.
2. A response paragraph, in which you will develop your *own* ideas in response to the story.
3. At least two peer replies, in which you engage with your peers’ response paragraphs.
4. Proofreading and professionalism — labeling, formatting, spelling, punctuation, etc.
So that’s a total of two paragraphs and two *substantial* replies.

Finally, I read every post carefully, folks, and I recognize when students plagiarize each other or the same web sources. I documented 121 cases of plagiarism last semester. I’d sure love not to have to document any this semester, but if I have to, so be it.
