Reaction Papers To help you integrate what you’re learning in this course with your own everyday life, you will write one Reaction Paper for each of the (8) groups of readings listed on the Syllabus (copied below). In response to one or both readings, you will write an analysis. Follow the guidelines addressed in Chapter 14 and the lectures presented in this module. Be sure to clarify the question you’re exploring, the insight you gain, and the evidence supporting that insight. Remember, this is an argumentative essay. Each essay should be composed of an introduction, three body paragraphs, conclusion, and a works cited page. Your thesis statement should tell the reader what your argument is (avoid announcing your thesis). Your body paragraphs should each start with a topic sentence explaining what point the paragraph will make. Provide evidence from the text to support your argument. Provide closure with a conclusion that answers the question, “so what?”.
Consider the story is not only about a boy and his father or about a dark and disturbing town. Instead, it tells us about the value of education or the lengths people go to in exchange for being part of a community. Similarly, you want your essay to focus on a “bigger picture”. Figure out what that is before you start writing. This essay is an analysis, NOT a summary or a book report.
Your introduction should explain the theme, context, rhetoric, message, and primary audience. Your thesis should make an argument about the message or interpretation of the reading(s).
