Radiologist Lab Report Assignment:

Task:

Radiographic Factors that affect Image Detail and Focal Spot Size Measurement

OBJECTIVES:
Gain an understanding of the effects of changing radiographic factors of focal spot size and OID have on images.
Determine the focal spots sizes of the x-ray unit. Students will need an understanding from previous practicals on:
1. the use of an x-ray unit;
2. setting radiographic exposure factors;
3. set-up the x-ray unit;
4. understand the relationship between the x-ray tube, the patient (or object being radiographed) and the image receptor;
5. exposure indices (EI) that provides an indication of the radiation dose that reaches the image receptor;
6. image histograms; and
7. digitising, viewing and manipulate image brightness and contrast in an image.

In this practical, students will gain an understanding of:
1. how changing the focal spot size, OID and CR image processing parameters affects image detail;
2. the use of line pair phantoms.
