Race/Gender/Class/Crime and Social Justice Newsletter
Students will create their own Educational newsletter (minimum 5-8 pages). Students will create a document, which informs and enlightens readers on the issues of race, gender, class, crime and social justice in America from the topics discussed in the course.
(Word has numerous standard newsletter templates to assist you)
The newsletter shall include the following elements:
Give an explanation of the definition and implications of the term Social Justice (in your own words)
Include some of the following accessories in 3 of the newsletters elements; (examples of accessories: picture, a story, info graphic, interview, article, informational, re-cap a news article, quiz for the reader, history note, “did you know?” current event, local event, class, statistics, crime stats…)
You must include at least 1 friend or family member interview on one of the issues discussed in the course. For example, race, gender, privilege, poverty, religion, social justice or class. (develop your own questions)
Include a researched informational segment on a topic of health. (I.e. food deserts, men/women’s health, criminals and health, health of impoverished children, race and access to health care)
Include a brief explanation on one of the theories discussed in the text
Include a relevant quiz, puzzle or riddle type element in the newsletter
Explain in essay form what you will take away from this course. You can incorporate it in a section titled “my corner” “my side” “my thoughts” or something similar.
A reference page
Each newsletter shall include all the components outlined above (see grading rubric). Feel free to be creative and have fun with the assignment. All essay writing shall be per APA standards as to citing, referencing, and formatting. (Failure to include any of these standards shall result in a reduction of points)
