PART I: INTRODUCTION
1. Make sure the proposal starts on a general level with some introductory remarks before going into the details of the specific research question you are proposing. This can be accomplished by providing a frame of reference, a definition, or a discussion of the significance of the topic in the field.
2. Provide a statement of the question, issue or general problem that you are examining. A common problem in research proposals is for the author to delay too long in stating the specific research question. Make sure the research question is stated no later than the end of the second or third paragraph. Make sure the research question is fully stated in one place.
3. Provide some key analytical points to support your topic of research. Topics in this area can be best explained with the help of examples and contemporary implications. What is the significance of this research? What does it inform us about contemporary aspects of international refugee law and colonial legacies?
PART II: SHORT LITERATURE REVIEW
1. The literature review is written to place your study within the context of existing knowledge and other studies in your discipline. It gives recognition to other scholars and it also allows you to point out how you plan to build on their research. This can be done by providing a more contemporary focus to the discipline for instance.
2. After you have written the literature review read it carefully and make sure it is clear. Notice whether you can easily determine how the proposal is building on earlier studies, as well as exploring a line of research that is new.
3. Please provide clear citations to all the studies you cite in your proposal.
PART III: BIBLIOGRAPHY
1. Generally, this is done in alphabetical order by the last name of the author. EDITING YOUR RESEARCH PROPOSAL
1. Make sure your proposal has section headings
2. The quality of the writing in the proposal (and the research paper) is important. The
proposal serves as an overview of your research paper. Check for common errors
I am adding a few sources, please use those plus look for at least 2 more that focus on how refugee law is hegemonic.
**Please don’t talk about the historical aspect**
Some ideas I want to include:
1) why international refugee law is hegemonic
– Talk about how its an instrument used as a cathartic response in Europe after World War II
2) Talk about how certain movements were not being taken into consideration by the Europeans.
– movements in need of protection such as the Indians for example
3) Lastly include the Ukrain and Russian issues right now as an example of hegemonic international refugee law
** attached under week 15 are some topic question that you can use to guide the paper**
