Peer Review of Rough Draft Prompt:
Due to be submitted to partners by May 9th
Peer Review will be graded on two factors. Half of the grade will be on having enough material for your partner to work with (at least half of the paper and a rough outline of the unfinished parts of the paper). The other half will be based on the quality of your comments to your partner. Be sure to give feedback that will allow them to make corrections grammatically, organizationally, stylistically, and most importantly, logically. Raise any counter-arguments you can think of, and try to engage critically with the paper’s argument.
Final Paper Prompt:
Papers Due May 16th
For your final you will write a 12 page (min.) double-spaced research paper on a topic in Latin American-US relations history from the 1950s – 2000 (approx.). This will be an argumentative history paper rooted in primary and secondary sources. A minimum of 10 sources is expected, and, as a general rule, at least two footnotes are expected per page. Your argument should question or elaborate on a debatable topic within Latin American-US relations history, and answer a specific historical question. I have linked two helpful essays on formulating a historical argument below for reference. The paper is to be written in Chicago style with footnotes and a bibliography.
The paper will be graded primarily on its argument, structure, evidence, and clarity. If you are unsure about making a solid historical argument consult the articles below and ask the instructor.
