Our first major assignment will be a research paper on a problem in healthcare. Strong topics are those that consider similar conflicts to those examined in our readings: that between what is technically “medical” and what is actually experienced.
You can choose whatever focus most interests you: narrative and illness/disability, language and pain/illnewss, pain or pain reports/treatment, LGBTQ+ issues, HIV/AIDS, mental health and cognitive disability, institutions and medical training, aging/dying/end-of-life care, etc. I’ll provide additional readings in each of these areas that will help guide your research.
