Some thoughts on the process:
Take a number of routes for this essay. The most important thing is to find a topic that interests you. Below are a few examples to get your creative juices flowing.

Follow a major film studio, a famous person (director, actor, cast or crew) from one of the films coming out in 2022, or a major genre of film.

Example: Do you love Clint Eastwood films? See if he has a Twitter or Instagram account.

Use the hashtag feature”: follow a film title, genre (i.e., film noir)

Example: #filmnoir or #western

Follow a film that is brand new or coming out between now and the end of the year. Rotten Tomatoes has a list for 2022. Scroll down to March and find a movie that is due to come out by the end of this year. Other places to look: Movie Insider’s Top Films for 2022, Polygon’s Top Films for 2022, Rolling Stone’s “50 Most Anticipated Movies of 2022.” Another place: “Top Anticipated Movies for 2022.”

How can you tie this into course material?
While Twitter and Instagram might be sites you use for entertainment, social media can provide insight into the film world and our culture. Wondering how to situate your topic within the course? Here are some examples:

Following Denzel Washington or Zendaya or Mel Gibson or Johnny Depp might provide new insight on stars.
Following a director might offer new influences and interests that change your thoughts on her or his films

A few questions to consider for your two-page essay:

Why did you choose to follow the person/word/movie/organization and how does this tie into the course?
Was it hard to find the person/word/organization on social media?
Do you trust that you are following the actual person or organization or is it fan-based or controlled by the person’s/organization promotional team to create an “image” or “brand”?
What have you learned about this person, term, or organization that you may not have learned through more traditional research avenues? Does social media have value in terms of news, and if so, what kind of information does it provide?
