Case Study:
You have been asked to provide advice on the Health Surveillance to be implemented in a small manufacturing facility to determine if noise levels that workers are exposed are acceptable based on recommended health surveillance. The small manufacturing process, in the area of concern, involved the use of several different pneumatic presses. None of which were enclosed.

The manufacturing facility used 3 and 5-tonne presses to press metal parts for fastenings. Currently, only 3 people are employed in the area, they work either a 10 hour or 12 shift depending on the daily demand.
Case Study 2: Silica Dust in a Small Quarry
You have been called in to provide advice on how to assess if the dust exposures in a control room at a small quarry are having an impact on the worker’s health. The quarry produces crushed rock from blasting. This quarry currently employs less than twenty operators. Dust is currently contained on the site using a range of dust suppression techniques including using conveyor covers, localised ventilation and fogging systems. The Primary plant control room is a small temporary building located in the same building as the primary plant whereas the secondary plant control room is a small temporary building structure currently on the edge of the secondary plant. The only ventilation systems on both control rooms are small wall-mounted air conditioners with basic dust filtration.

The current levels of Silica exposure require RPE to be worn but workers refuse due to the heat, humidity, and comfort.
