Understanding Psychopathology – Normal versus Abnormal Behavior

Defining a Psychological Disorder:

A psychological disorder is (1) a psychological dysfunction within an individual that is (2) associated with distress or impairment in functioning and (3) a response that is not typical or culturally expected. All three basic criteria must be met; no one criterion alone has yet been identified that defines the essence of abnormality.

1. What are some behaviors that may be considered “abnormal” by the above

definitions, but do not constitute a psychological disorder?

2. Do the words “abnormal” and “pathological” necessary mean the same thing? Can you be one without being the other? Is abnormality an “either-or” construct or is it better thought of as a continuum?

What is “Abnormal” Behavior?

Consider the following situations. Most people would consider at least some of the

actions of the people involved to be abnormal. What do you think? Think about each one as you read through the list. Then, provide a rationale for your judgments,

including any information as to why you did or did not consider each situation to be abnormal. These evaluations do not need to be more than a few sentences each.

1.Your uncle consumes a quart of whiskey per day; he has trouble remembering

the names of those around him.

2.Your grandmother believes that part of her body is missing and cries out about this missing part all day long. You show her that the part she thinks is missing is not, but she refuses to acknowledge this contradictory information.

3.Your neighbor has vague physical complaints and sees two or three doctors

weekly.

4.Your neighbor sweeps, washes, and scrubs his driveway daily.

5.Your cousin is pregnant and is dieting (800 calories per day) so that she will not get “too fat” with the pregnancy. She has had this type of behavioral response since she

was 13 years old.

6.A woman’s husband died within the past year. The widow appears to talk to

herself in the yard, doesn’t wash herself or dress in clean clothes, and appears to have lost a lot of weight.

7.A 10-year-old wants to have his entire body tattooed.

8.A 23-year-old female smokes marijuana every day, is a straight-A student in

college, has a successful job, and is in a solid long-term relationship.

9.A person experiences several unexpected panic attacks each week, but is

otherwise happily married, functions well at work, and leads an active recreational

lifestyle.

10.A 35-year-old happily married man enjoys wearing women’s clothes and

underwear on the weekends when he and his wife go out on the townHow Citizens Engage in Community-Oriented Policing?: nursing essay help
I don’t know how to handle this Law question and need guidance.

Community policing should be a citizen owned effort. Of course the police and other city agencies should be involved when necessary but the most consistent and comprehensive effort should belong to the neighborhoods and businesses that are in the affected area.

Assume that you are a community leader in an area with no ongoing community-oriented policing effort. For this week’s assignment you are to evaluate the role of citizens in the community-oriented policing effort. How would a group of citizens assess the needs of the community and critically analyze what resources they have and need to make a positive impact? What would be the best strategy be for your group to engage with the police and other city agencies in this effort?

I don’t understand this Art & Design question and need help to study.

In 200 – 250 words, complete the following:
Name a contemporary music selection, painting, sculpture, movie, or other art experience that you feel is a good piece of work, and name the author of your selection. Describe the aesthetic qualities of this artwork as to why it is pleasing to you. (What makes this work special? How does it make you feel?) How does this work create empathy in you? (How do I identify with this piece?) Explain. Find out, to the best of your ability, why this artist created this work. Research, briefly, the context of this author and work. Write at least four sentences about the context and make sure to properly cite your source. Do you think your selection will someday be considered a masterpiece? Why or why not? Will the author of this artwork be considered a “giant” of the arts? Why or why not?

This assignment should be typewritten, double-spaced, in Times New Roman, 12-point font, and should include proper language, grammar, and spelling. If you need writing assistance, be sure to utilize the following tool, Grammarly.Moral Stages
I’m trying to study for my Law course and I need some help to understand this question.

Prologue – Both the Grantham County Sheriff’s Office and the University City Police Department have a Records Management System (RMS). These systems contain all civil, criminal, and informational reports along with other confidential information. Each department allows its police officers, deputies, detectives, records clerks, and dispatchers access to these files while at work. Under no circumstances will the public have access to the information contained in RMS. All employees receive training and sign a document stating that he or she understands that violating this directive may result in termination and other criminal charges.

Scenario – Badpenny and Dreadford have been dating for several months. Recently, Badpenny started to believe Dreadford’s claim that University City Detective, Alphonse Krupt or just Al Krupt set him up.

Dreadford told Badpenny that the time he spent in prison was for a crime he did not commit. Dreadford explained that Detective Al Krupt is a dirty cop and Detective Krupt planted the meth found in his car. Dreadford always parked his car in the street in front of his house and left the vehicle unlocked. Detective Krupt must have put the meth in his vehicle that night while Dreadford slept. The day of his arrest, Dreadford had left for work in the morning and Detective Krupt pulled Dreadford over because he did not use his turn indicator.

Detective Krupt then made a factious claim that he could smell the odor of burnt marijuana, which gave him probable cause to search Dreadford’s vehicle. Detective Krupt acted surprised when he found the meth he had planted and then arrested Dreadford. Badpenny thought Dreadford’s accounting of the incident was plausible and started to believe that the officers were embellishing their stories of Dreadford.

Badpenny thought there is no way her sweet, thoughtful Dreadford was the major drug dealer the officers made him out to be. One evening after work, Badpenny received a call from Dreadford asking her to come by, which was unusual. However, she was excited that he had been thinking about her and could not wait to see him. When Badpenny arrived at Dreadford’s house, he handed her one yellow rose and a glass of wine and said, “You look beautiful.” Dreadford casually asked Badpenny “Did anything exciting happen during your shift?”

Badpenny said, “As a matter of fact the detectives arrested a person in connection with the illegal drug trade in Grantham County.” Badpenny continued to share details about the arrest and told Dreadford that the arrestee might become a confidential informant in exchange for leniency on his case. Badpenny lowered her voice and said, “The arrest caused quite a commotion at the department, but it is all quite hush-hush because the person the detectives arrested may lead to an even larger drug bust.”

Dreadford filled Badpenny’s glass of wine, kissed her on the cheek, and then asked, “Who the person was that the detectives arrested?”

Badpenny replied, “Roy McCoy” (Badpenny did not tell Dreadford McCoy’s nickname is “Mookie”). Badpenny asks Dreadford, “Do you know McCoy?”

Dreadford says, “No, I do not know a guy that goes by that name.” Badpenny had another glass of wine and with a little prompting from Dreadford; she tells him how she became curious about the incident when the federal agents showed up at the department. Badpenny pulled up the detective’s report on RMS and read it.

Dreadford asks, “What was in the report?”

Badpenny said, “In the report the detective stated that McCoy is going to help them get the next big shipment of Meth coming into town next week. If the drug bust goes well, McCoy may not get any prison time for helping the police and the department could get thousands of dollars in revenue.”

For this week’s assignment, review the scenario above and write a 2- to 3-page paper identifying external factors that influenced Badpenny’s decision to share confidential information. Also, include how the structure of an organization influences an employee’s decision to behave ethically or unethically, and what interventions an organization can implement to encourage ethical behavior. Apply Kohlberg’s moral stages to explain what stage you see both Badpenny and Dreadford – give examples.

In addition to your textbook, find one scholarly article retrieved from the Grantham Library – EBSCO host to help support the concepts you selected from your textbook.

Type all papers in Times New Roman 12pt font – include the header, title page, and reference page; APA formatting is required in this course. Use at least two scholarly reference sources such as the textbook and scholarly peer-reviewed articles obtained from the Grantham Library. Additional references may be procured from the Internet. Citing your references by using parenthetical citations (in-text citations) is a skill that each student must demonstrate in this course.
