Choose a specific maritime organizational setting. 

1. Describe the setting you have chosen and explain why it fits the definition of  “organization”. 

2. Discuss how teamwork is required in this particular setting. 

3. Select the two most dominant forces that, in your opinion, impact on group  dynamics in your chosen setting and explain how they may affect teamwork.

4. Discuss how a manager can optimise teamwork for organizational goals in the  

particular setting you have chosen and in light of the two forces selected in  question 3. 

All your explanations and discussions must be underpinned by relevant theories and  principles related to management and organizational behaviour. 

Task 2 – The individual and group processes in organizations (max 1300 words) Read the following quotes by Milton Friedman: 

Few trends could so thoroughly undermine the very foundations of our free society  as the acceptance by corporate officials of a social responsibility other than to make  as much money for their stockholders as possible. This is a fundamentally  subversive doctrine.

 

In an ideal free market resting on private property, no individual can coerce any  other; all cooperation is voluntary, all parties to such cooperation benefit or they  need not participate. There are no values, no “social” responsibilities in any sense  other than the shared values and responsibilities of individuals. Society is a  collection of individuals and of the various groups they voluntarily form … In a free  society … there is one and only one social responsibility of business – to use its  resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits so long as it stays  within the rules of the game, which is to say, engages in open and free competition  without deception or fraud.”
