In this assessment task you will write about how brands use elements of “the marketing mix” – the 4 P’s (product, place, price, promotion) to influence purchase decisions. Assignment 1 is an introduction to marketing. In Assignment 4, your final assignment, you will demonstrate that over the semester you have developed a sophisticated understanding of marketing. The table below summarises key points for Assignment 1. Note that later Assignments will have different requirements (for example; the need to cite references).
Assignment 1
You will write about the 4Ps and your own purchase experience.
You will write in your own words.
You will not use any marketing theories and concepts.
You will write in the past tense.
For statements of facts you will write in the third person impersonal (passive voice), e.g. “the product is packaged in…” On the other hand, you will write in the first person (active voice) when you are writing about your opinions and the things you think, experienced, and felt, for example “In my opinion the packaging would influence that
consumer” s buying decision as follows;….“.
Assessment details
1. First, identify a product which you have recently purchased which cost $20 or less – this could be any product from a supermarket, retail store or a website.
2. The item purchased should be a physical product (a “good”) and not a service.
3. You do not need to provide proof of purchase. The experience you describe could be based on a simulation of a purchase instead of actually buying the product.
4. Use the template provided (Assignment 1 Template) to write about your product purchase.
5. Use the example provided (Assignment 1 Sample) to help you understand what is required in this Assignment. Complete all sections of the template.
