Research Proposal Assignment:
Introduction:
Functions within different organisations provide an overview of various activities that comes at a cost of exploitation of different resources. Among the resources used by different companies, usage of the environmental resources shows major exploitation of natural resources in several ways. The report has thus focused on evaluation of various activities of these organisations functional in different industrial sector.
Emission of large amount of carbon dioxide has been a real issue that the organisations are facing while conducting their business activities. Therefore, the present day situation has emerged with a need for evaluation of the processes of functioning that would lead to mitigation of carbon emission for the sake of maintenance of carbon balance in the global atmosphere. However, the present day functioning of the organisations have taken several initiatives that are engaged with reduction in carbon emission (as found through review of different articles). Furthermore, the study sheds light on the activities of CDP towards mitigating adverse environmental impacts of excess carbon emission in the environment.
Review of the CDP reports in the last few years has demonstrated a major increase in the content of carbon within the environment. The presence of carbon has been evident in different forms and within various sections of the environment. Therefore, due to accumulation of large amount of carbon within the environment in different forms has led to evolution of severe problems. These problems might be rated to various health problems among the stakeholders of different companies. Furthermore, various effects are also found in company return on investment. An adverse effect has also been noticed in the yearly environment and sustainability report of the organisations. This has therefore compelled different organisations to move towards the consideration of carbon trading to balance their yearly carbon emissions. Hence, there is a hard felt need of research on the topic of carbon emission and consumption of natural resources that would assess the effects on various stakeholders of the company that is regulators, accountants as well as the general public. Therefore, the consideration of above stated matter has triggered the assessment of the current situation through the following research proposal.
Literature Review:
The Consequences of environmental degradation has been a cause of concern for differential segments of a community or collectively a nation. It has identified that adaptation of precautionary measures must be considered as an indispensable embellish for ensuring an ecological balance in order to
support the future generations to come. An intercept of the notion of ensuring ecological balance has been provided by the industrialisation and the emerging influence of globalisation on trade. As opined by Barkenbus (2010), production of goods of services has increased with the passing decades in order to achieve the increasing demands of the consumers. The increase in global population has influenced rapid industrialisation in order to generate employment opportunity, attain economic development, acquire a significant credential in trade activities and suffice the consumer needs etc. The sustainability of the present population all around the globe is highly influenced by the symbiotic balance that exists between the need of industrialisation and the urge of ensuring a safer environment for the future generations to come (Lee & Kim, 2015). The scenario of environmental degradation is alarming enough to ensure appropriate inclusion of policies of environmental protection in business strategies of Organisations all around the globe. In accordance with CDPs motive of ensuring a sustainable economy it can be indicated that the modern day companies have considered the depletion of natural resources and environmental degradation as a threat to their respective business along with sustainability (Menon, 2016). The increasing accountability of the global companies towards CDPs queries, justifies the interest of the companies in formulating policies of environmental protection.
Global Warming has been identified as one of the primary threats to our environment. The increase in the global temperature has adversely affected differential communities and multiple habitats all around the globe. On the contrary, Polarisation has been identified as the one of the threatening phenomenon in vast areas of Northern Ireland. The Changes in Climatic condition can be attributed for the adverse impacts on each aspect of population that includes water supply also to lands of cultivation or homes of community members. The heat waves are considered as a high threat to the health standards of a population. These waves may cause severe damages to a human body and may prove to be fatal in certain cases (Willow, 2014).
As opined by Wennersten, Sun & Li (2015), it is essential to maintain a global concentration of CO2 under 350 ppm. An organisation must formulate strategies to control the CO2 emission level in the environment considering the permissible limit below 350 ppm. A pivotal query lies in identifying the appropriate magnitude of CO2 that must be maintained to ensure a simultaneous balance between the fragmented parameters. The benchmark of 350 ppm is crossed and target needs to formulate within an attainable reach. Generally, the whole of the GHG emission from a particular product is evaluated with a LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) that examines every step and the input that is involved in creation of a specific product in order to calculate the whole GHG emissions. A thorough evaluation of the of the impact of the livestock production and the consumption that would be considered at all stages till the disposal of the wastes (Bellarby et al. 2013). The notion of climate change indicates to the phenomenon of the variances that has been identified in the climate for the past few decades. The presence of the clear and robust findings of the environmental changes has been considered as an integral part of the global assessment of report. The phenomenon that indicates to the changes in environment includes warming of the oceans and the atmosphere, reduction in snow and ice, rise in the sea levels, and the increasing concentration of the greenhouse gases. The past few decades has reflected a successive rise in global temperature, which is an alarming indicator of ecological imbalance (Stocker, 2014). An increase in the probable threats to environment may reflect a serious threat to the sustainability of the future generations. However, the attitude of the organisations has reflected a concern for the environment and their initiatives for environmental policies justify their positive intention of maintaining fair environmental standards. Differential companies have formulated their strategies in accordance with the recommendation of the CDP to ensure a ecological balance.
