MAN304: International Market Analysis Assessment Answer

Task:

The purpose of this individual international study analysis is to further your skills in applying relevant international business analytical approaches. It will also test your ability to identify a range of destination market-related problems and their commercial implications for a firm wishing to engage in an international business venture. This will enable you to apply international business tools to a variety of international situations arising in the global market context.

To complete this assignment you will need to select a firm. The firm can be a private or a public company based anywhere in the world. It must have information about its operations readily available as you will use this company for the remainder of the term. Please choose this firm carefully as it will be used in the remaining assessments of this unit. You will not be able to change the firm once you have selected it in this assessment. A good criterion for the choice of a firm is the availability of public information about its products and services, corporate background and market reputation. Your lecturer will not allocate any firms, so it is important to identify a firm that you wish to work with. Do this early and consult with your lecturer about the firm if in doubt.

The assignment requires you to select two (2) possible countries as potential destinations for the firm to conduct its international business operations. At this stage, any two countries other than the country of origin of the firm will do. The firm must not have any existing operations in either of the countries you select. There are no specific criteria for the selection of the two (2) countries (country A and country B), as a further analysis of each will take place in this
assessment and subsequent ones, so you can choose any countries you wish.

Once you have selected the countries, the requirements of this assessment are to:
1. Conduct research into each country and produce a comparative analysis of the two countries in the following areas:
a. The ease with which international firms report being able to do business in each country. You can find information about this from a range of sources including business news, official government websites or other online and offline sources.
b. Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
c. Inflation rate
d. Education levels and the labour force skills available
e. Current interest rates
f. Current value of the local currency against the United States (US) dollar
g. Employment rate
h. Average income per person per year

2. Once you have collected this information, prepare a report with the headings shown below. The report represents an analysis of the two countries and a recommendation at the end of the report to the Board of Directors of the company you selected. The recommendation will be to either continue further in the choice of one of the countries or to find an alternative country in which to sell the product. If your recommendation in this assessment is to find a
different country (not one of the two that you selected in this assessment), you will need to use that new country in your next assessment. Use the following headings in developing your report.

3. International market analysis report headings

a. Introduction to your chosen company and its background
b. Present one (1) product that the company intends on selling in the international market. Give a background to the product, its price, current market success or failure and its characteristics or special features.
c. Present a brief background to country A and country B.
d. Summarise items A to H in point 1 for the first country (country A).
e. Summarise items A to H in point 1 for the second country (country B).
f. Use 12 references to support or counter your findings. Write this section as if it were a short literature review. At least half of the references must be academic, and all references must use the Harvard Referencing style.
g. Make a clear recommendation to the Board of Directors of your company about which country they should consider opening up a new market in.
h. Justify your recommendation based on the analysis you conducted.

4. The analysis does not require an executive summary.

5. The word count does not include the cover sheet or reference list or any tables you may use.

6. The assignment is individual.

Please remember that you will need to cite the sources you used, so you are required to reference at least 10 sources of information. These may include corporate websites, government publications, industry reports, census data, journal articles, newspaper articles, and textbook material. In referencing sources, you must apply Harvard Referencing Style to your intext citations and consequently to the reference list.
