The Meme Assignment attempts to get at what you took away from the literary works while providing some creative space and a bit of fun.
For our Meme Assignment, you are looking at the works from a cultural and literary analysis point of view.
The Meme Assignment will help you synthesize information and identify key ideas/concepts.
Assignment Directions:
Review your notes from assigned readings.
Think upon the poems and stories, specifically at what you found most interesting. Ask yourself: Why do I find this setting/dialogue/character/action/language, etc. so interesting? Write the answer to this question in your notes.
Consider the historical context of the readings. Make some notes about your thoughts about life in Britain.
Analyze the literary ideas you have made notes on and the historical context.
Create a Meme that conveys a message from your analysis.
Provide a brief explanation of your Meme. Please do not write more than two paragraphs. Your explanation should be clear, specific, and to the point using examples from the reading and the historical context as justification for your Meme. You must describe why you chose the image and words for the meme. All quotes from the text and/or videos need to be appropriately cited.
When You Are Old
BY WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS
When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.
(this is the poem that I selected from the class to do the assignment on)
