Task:

You are to gain an understanding of the eLogistics activities of a business in the Hobart area through industry engagement.

This assignment aims to provide you with an opportunity to undertake a critical assessment of the eLogistics activities of a local small-to-medium business and recommend solutions for eLogistical improvement.

The marks obtained for this assignment count 20% towards the total mark for the unit KIT710 eLogistics.
Note: This is a group assignment. You are to work in groups of three (3) to four (4) students. Your completed report must be submitted by the due date shown above.

You are required to form a group of three (3) to four (4) students for this assignment. Your group is required to choose a local business in the Hobart area.

Before you can start your assignment you need to email the Unit Coordinator, Dr Luke Mirowski ([email protected]), letting him know the name of your preferred business and which two (2) basic logistical activities your group will analyse.

Dr Mirowski will review your choice and either approve it, or suggest you find a different business to target. Critically, each group must select a different business to research, and the business must be genuinely involved a supply chain.

Once Dr Mirowski has approved your choice of business and logistical activities, using the business as the case study, you are required to produce a report of approximately 3000 words addressing the following tasks:

Group questions – to be answered by everyone in the group.
1. Explain the background of your chosen local business
2. How is the business impacted by supply chains, logistics and information technology?
3. Identify two basic logistical activities (from the lectures) undertaken by the business.
Critically analyse and evaluate these two activities using theory from the lectures.
4. Discuss and justify what eLogistics theory and practise could be used to improve the logistical

5. What did you learn about eLogistics from the business?

You are expected to undertake some research of relevant issues in eLogistics to support your answers by referring to books or journal articles in the library or on the Web.

Your assignment should show evidence of you having used research material from sources other than the lecture notes. Ensure that you correctly cite material gathered from other sources using the Harvard referencing scheme.

You must also include evidence of having talked with the staff or owners of the business in a formal and planned manner. This means arranging a time with the business to conduct a meeting for the specific purpose of completing this assignment. The evidence you should include to validate this activity are the name/date of staff you spoke with at the business and some photos (of the logistical activities at the business).
