Do some research on workers’ compensation in your state, or consider the information provided to you in the suggested resources for the State of Alabama. What do you see as the benefits and drawbacks of workers’ compensation to employers and employees? Also, feel free to share any stories you might have related to workers’ compensation cases with which you are familiar. ALSO PLEASE REPLY TO ANOTHER STUDENTS COMMENT BELOW  VICTORIA: I currently live in Michigan and most employers are required to offer workers compensation plans. There are a few classes of workers who are covered by federal laws and are not covered by the Workers’ Disability Compensation Act of Michigan. Employees of the federal government (such as postal workers, employees at a veterans administration hospital, or members of the armed forces) are covered by federal laws. People who work on interstate railroads are covered by the Federal Employers Liability Act. Seamen on navigable waters are covered by the Merchant Marine Act of 1920, and people loading and unloading vessels are covered by the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act. Virtually all other workers and employers are subject to Michigan’s law.https://www.michigan.gov/leo/0,5863,7-336-94422_95508_60874-274438–,00.html The benefits of a workers compensation plan is that it protects the employer from large liability claims. As it also protects the workers income if they are hurt on the job.  To me workers comp. is another insurance plan, that some will rightly need that benefit and others will abuse it.
