Introduction to Criminology: Why Do They Do It? (3rd edition) This is the book for the course.
You will put together a presentation on a specific high-profile criminal case (see https://www.fbi.gov/history/famous-cases for ideas) using a specific theory of your choice from class to explain the offender’s behavior. Following an explanation of the incident and a thorough explanation of the theory you are using to explain that incident, you will speculate if/how the crime may have been prevented according to the theory you chose.
Requirements:
Content of the presentation:
Maximum 3 minutes: A brief description of the incident and any background on the offender that is known.
Minimum 4 minutes: A thorough description of the specific theory that you will use to explain the offender’s behavior.
Minimum 1 minute: A clear explanation of why/how you believe this theory explains the offender’s behavior.
Minimum 3 minutes: Speculation on what – according to the theory – may have prevented the criminal incident. You must include ideas of a policy/program/intervention that would have led to the prevention of the crime – again clearly using ideas from the theory. You must provide evidence of the effectiveness of this existing policy/program/intervention using one or more of your scholarly sources.
The presentation must be at least ten (10) minutes long.
PowerPoint or another presentation software must be used and a copy uploaded to D2L.
You must cite at least five sources. The choice of books, articles, web resources, etc. is entirely at your discretion, however, at least three of the five must be academic quality, peer-reviewed research articles (e.g., from American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, Criminology, Crime & Delinquency, Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, Justice Quarterly, etc.).
The final slide must be a reference page of the sources you used for the presentation
