Step 1: Your first task for this writing assignment is to brainstorm ideas and then devise a working thesis statement for your narrative essay. The thesis statement is your major idea or claim—the thing that you want to support or express in your narrative.
Step 2: Once you have a thesis, produce an outline to help you organize your argument. Your outline should begin with your thesis, and then break down into paragraphs. Each paragraph should be a distinct example or idea that supports your thesis. You should also have a concluding paragraph that reiterates an important idea or concept that you want to resonate with your reader.
Step 3: Once you have written this outline, your task is to draft your introductory paragraph. Your introduction should introduce the main ideas and conclude with your thesis statement. Because this is a personal narrative, you can be more creative with this than you would be in a conventional essay, but you must still indicate to your reader what your major stance (thesis) is.
Drafting Requirements:
Your writing sample should be double-spaced and written in 12-pt. font, using a simple style such as Calibri. Provide the following information at the top of the page, left-aligned: your name, the instructor’s name, the course title, and the date. Your sample should have an original title that is center-aligned and located after the required information. You do not have to provide MLA in-text citations or a work-cited page for this assignment.
