Objective: Review the ENG1020 course objectives and reflect on your learning and growth as a writer in relation to those objectives.
Take some time to reflect on your journey as a writer in this course. You can even include reflection on your first writing course, ENG1000 English Composition I. Frame your reflection according to the course objectives of ENG1020. Course learning objectives are statements that describe what students should know or be able to do by the end of a course. They usually appear in the course syllabus. Write a short paragraph in response to each of the following four objectives for ENG1020 English Composition II.
Objective #1 for this course is to “Demonstrate rhetorical awareness of distinct audiences, purposes, and contexts.” Describe what you have learned about writing in different ways for different audiences.
Objective #2 for this course is to “Approach writing as a recursive process that incorporates brainstorming, drafting, self and peer evaluation, revision, and editing.” Describe what you’ve learned from the process of writing multiple drafts, receiving feedback from tutors and the instructor, and revising more than once for each paper. I encourage you to review some of your early first drafts against your final drafts and note the change and growth. Describe that change and growth.
Objective #3 for this course is to “Engage in the collection and evaluation of research sources, which will culminate in writing a research essay in accordance with APA style of documentation.” What have you learned about research writing? How would you describe your current comfort level with doing research (finding academic sources), writing with research support, and documenting in APA in-text and reference list citations? What prewriting activities were most helpful for you as your prepared to write?
Objective #4 for this course is to “Demonstrate proficiency in identifying and correcting grammar, mechanics, and syntax errors.” Has your writing style and correctness improved while taking these two composition courses? If so, how? If not, why? What activities and processes were most helpful for you as you addressed your problem areas in writing? (E.g., the text explanations, InQuizitive grammar practice, feedback from peers/tutors/professor.) What problems did you have at the beginning of the course (or maybe think back to the beginning of ENG1000) that you don’t have now? Explain.
All written assignments should be formatted using APA. For the current OCU APA Template, click the Student Toolkit in the top navigation bar and view the APA: Citation and Formatting Help page.
